Recovery In The Arts
The Fresh Start Alliance for Change & Empowernment Network formally known as Consumer Network, began an initiative in 2008 to promote recovery through the arts as a promising-practice for wellness and empowerment. This program recruits consumers to participate in art workshops such as papier maché, painting and photography. The goal of the Creative ARTS program is to enhance the lives of consumers by teaching new and creative ways to increase wellness, self-help and empowerment- “ARTS” stands for Advocacy, Recovery, Transformation, and Support. As a result of these workshops, the Consumer Network participated in the 2008 “Art Works in Prevention and Recovery” Art Exhibit. The Fresh Start Consumer Network is the lead consumer-run public organization in Miami-Dade County that offers creative arts programs to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
